Build your blog and business on generosity.

This concept is something I have carried over from my counselling days. Blogging and counselling are very similar. Your are looking to inspire, help, and educate.

Counselling and blogging are also similar in that in both you are listening for the pain point.

The importance of Asking and Listening are as important in blogging as in counselling  Most people just listen for what they need from the other person.

Do not do this! listen instead for what is unique about a person. Then take a moment to point it out to them. You will affect them positively.
Facts and information are valuable but are rarely profound. Next time you are listening to your readers, try and pause, read between the lines and  “feel” what they are feeling. Respond to what you have heard and sensed instead of soliciting business and hunting for clients.

Deliver nuggets, and messages that can be remembered, and retransmitted.

Thomas Leonard the grandfather of coaching used to talk about – MEMES – These are basically the idea equivalent of genes.

More simply put, They are expressions of concepts and idea passed along from person to person

“Memes” are capable of changing and adapting as they are passed along. They are also capable of changing and adapting as they are transmitted and applied to real-life situations.

THE  MOST important idea to hold on to about  “Memes” is this:

When you can package information, concepts, or truths into nugget-sized packages:

A)They land easily on a person you are talking or writing to and

B) that person can also pass them on to others easily.

Start with nuggets.   Keep things simple and easy so that blogging remains fun.

Help your readers avoid overwhelm.

I believe that it is important to strive to become a blogger people come to for information, tips, and advice. Again,  I believe it is as important in blogging as it is in counseling to be generous with our help.

I am a firm believer in the principle that people do not care how much you know until they know how much you care and how genuine you are first.

Do not operate from scarcity. “Give” your knowledge away.

connect with your target audience in a completely open and transparent way.

What follows  are some of the top best ways to do this.

Accept and endorse your worse  weaknesses.

Do not be on the defensive or shy about them. A lot  of attraction works without  having “to work at it.” It happens by itself behind the scenes. And one of the ways to profoundly affect others is to be so self-secure about who you are weaknesses included, that they too, can feel secure. Because they do not have to pretend to be someone they are not.

We are all gripped by eye-popping fears and compelling desires, but when you’ve reached that place in life where you aren’t affected by any of this, because you’ve fully accepted your humanness, faults, and talents  – then others can have the same experience of themselves.

Its magical  and profoundly attractive. I will come back to this in another post, but for now, just realize that what you experience as your faults may be clues, gateways, signposts, to your deepest strengths

Part of your life’s journey as a person and as a blogger, is going to be finding out about those things, unlocking doors, taking a different attitude about “Scary Monsters”, and finding key powerful elements of your humanity, which you ultimately will tap, for huge benefits.

*Bringing me face to face with my own limitations and weaknesses has been one of the most difficult yet beneficial experiences of this whole blogging business.

When you radiate confidence in being basically OK, your  faults and setbacks notwithstanding, others pick up a cue and become more comfortable with themselves. They  may not know what they’re experiencing, BUT they will be attracted to the feeling.

BE GENEROUS  your knowledge, Operate from a standpoint of abundance. Do not keep potentially helpful tips and information to yourself.

Give it away freely the internet is a vast place. Use your own knowledge to open up new worlds for people, in their thinking, feelings, or priorities.

By exposing your reader to different concepts and Methods you are in a sense gently pulling the rug from under them. But never leave it at this, whenever you can quickly give them a new chair to plop into on their way down.

HOW? Question an antiquated assumption, challenge a strongly held belief, be inquisitive. By writing about it yourself and verbalizing it in a simple easy to understand way, you are in effect also giving some people the words to express what they are barely able to sense and cannot yet say. You are helping them cut through the fluff.

AGAIN ALWAYS BE GENTLE, play fair, and never be arrogant or condescending about other ways of viewing a problem. At all times be respectful of boundaries.,

It is an exciting time to live where you can connect to your global tribe with rich multimedia that transcends time and place.

When  I was a Family Therapist specializing in addiction and eating disorders, I used to wish I could reach more parents, more schools in order to educate them in how to spot problems before they got out to hand.  Now because of blogging and the internet I can.

We all now have the power in our hands to make a difference and maybe leave a legacy.

My hope is that you will embrace blogging from a standpoint of abundance rather than scarcity and share whatever your message happens to be generously. When you do this you will be will be surprised and amazed as to where it will take you.
